Buy Back Policy

Subject to Change

Burgess Brands LLC agrees to purchase items from its customers, also known as “Sellers,” according to the following terms and conditions. By clicking “Checkout” and completing an order with Burgess Brands, the Seller acknowledges and agrees to these policies and procedures.

Book Buyback Quotes

When a Seller sells a book to Burgess Brands LLC, he or she will receive a quote determined according to Burgess Brands’ current market valuation. Burgess Brands will pay the Seller this amount if the following conditions are met:

  • The book arrives in “Good” or better condition. See “Book Condition and Related Factors” below for more information on determining a book’s condition.
  • Burgess Brands receives the items as described in the original order. Burgess Brands recommends its Sellers take extra care when inputting buyback order information, as many textbooks have multiple editions, including international editions and instructor’s editions, which we do not accept.
 Additionally, Burgess Brands recommends including all additional supplements (such as workbooks, CDs, access codes, etc.). These supplements are considered part of the book(s) being sold, as indicated by its ISBN, and may be required in order to receive the full buyback quote.  Burgess Brands only buys 100% legally printed and bound USA standard student editions, not instructor, international, or loose-leaf editions.
  • The book is not counterfeit.  Due to the fact that counterfeits are an ongoing problem that we take serious, any potential counterfeit books will be sent to the publisher immediately for verification. This may delay your processing for up to 4 weeks.  In the event your book is counterfeit, the respective publisher will be notified along with your contact information and you will not receive payment for your book.  If there are no issues with your book, you will be paid the original price quoted even though our price quote may have increased on our webpage.
  • The online quote is good for 3 days and Burgess Brands must receive the book(s) within 10 days of the creation of the buyback quote. In the event a book(s) arrives after the 10-day period, the Seller will be paid according to the buyback quote posted on the site at the time the order is processed.
  • If any of these conditions are not met, Burgess Brands reserves the right to adjust Seller payment accordingly. The quoted price is non-negotiable.
  • If a book is rejected you will be notified via the account email address that was established when you set up your account.  You will have three days to provide us with a return shipping label as well as a $5 fee for handling.  In the event no contact is made from the seller after the three day period the books will be disposed of.

Transfer of Ownership

Once a shipped package arrives at Burgess Brands’ warehouse, ownership of the contents of the package immediately transfers to Burgess Brands.  Burgess Brands reserves the right to value such packages based upon their conditions outlined in their book condition policy. 

Burgess Brands also reserves the right to return, resell, recycle, or donate any item arriving in a buyback shipment.

The Seller is not able to cancel an order after ownership has transferred to Burgess Brands.

Creating duplicate order

Duplicate orders and duplicate accounts are prohibited.  We limit the amount of books that we order based upon supply and demand factors.  In the event you have multiple books of the same ISBN to sell, do not hesitate to contact us at info@burgessbrands.com to get approval.  Violation of this policy might result in non-payment at the sole discretion of Burgess Brands.

Minimum and Maximum Order Size

Burgess Brands will only process buyback orders with a total value of $25.00 USD or greater.

Sellers using our website may not generate more than $1,000 in buyback revenue within a 30-day period. In the event a seller would like to sell more than the allotted amount, then a special approval will be necessary by contacting info@burgessbrands.com

Book Condition and Related Factors

Upon receipt, Burgess Brands’ employees will evaluate a book and determine its value according to the following categories. These categories subsequently determine the amount paid to the Seller.

GOOD CONDITION:

  • No Staining or Discoloration
  • All pages must be included and all text legible.
  • NO LIQUID DAMAGE OF ANY KIND.
  • No binding damage or missing pages.

POOR CONDITION:

  • Binding damage, cover damage, missing pages or illegible text.
  • Torn pages
  • Odor
  • Liquid damage or staining of any kind to the pages or covers.

Good condition books that arrive within 10 days of the creation of the buyback order will be purchased at the full amount quoted in the order.

Rejected Item Returns

Items that have been rejected due to a condition issue will be returned at the seller’s expense.  The seller will be notified via the email address on the account and they will have three days to respond with a paid return shipping label as well as a $5 handling fee per book.  In the event no contact is received within the three day span, Burgess Brands reserves the right to dispose of said books. 

Alternate Editions

Burgess Brands prices books based upon student edition prices.  While we recognize that ISBNs contain various editions (i.e. international editions, Loose-Leaf, or instructor’s editions) we do not accept such additions and their values will be set at 0 and the seller will be notified. It is the Seller’s responsibility to identify the correct ISBN during the selling procedure.

Books that are not currently being purchased by Burgess Brands will be immediately destroyed and not returned under any circumstance.  Only send the book for which a quote was provided.  Seller accounts with a history of intentionally creating orders with incorrect ISBNs may result in non-payment, account termination, or forfeiture of shipments.

Loose Leaf  / Unbound / 3 Ring Binder Editions

Burgess Brands does not buy Loose-Leaf books.  If you send us a Loose-Leaf edition, even though we may have it listed as a book we’re buying on the webpage, they will be disposed of.

Book Shipping Procedure

Once an order to sell a book is placed, the seller will be provided with a USPS shipping label that can be placed on the box or envelopes containing the shipment. The seller must then drop off their package at the nearest USPS post office.
The seller must NOT place packages in a Priority Mail packaging, or use Priority Mail tape, as this will result in additional mailing fees being deducted from your order.
Burgess Brands is not responsible for any loss, damage, lateness, or mishandling that may occur while an item is in transit.
Burgess Brands recommends the following:

  • Include your order packing slip in the box.
  • Purchase optional insurance through USPS. Burgess Brands cannot reimburse lost, delayed, or damaged orders.
  • Ship within 3 days of placing the order. Sellers are strongly encouraged to mail as quickly as possible upon creating an order.

Book Orders Outside the US

We do not accept shipments from outside the US.

Books Sent in Error

Burgess Brands is not responsible nor liable for any items received that were not included in the original order.

Payment Procedure

Payment times may vary depending on numerous factors.

  • Order is placed. The shipping label is immediately ready and shipment must take place within 3 days of order.
  • Transit:  USPS Media Mail typically takes 4-10 business days to reach our warehouse.
  • Processing:  After delivery at our docks, it normally takes 1-3 business days to process orders. Be advised that if we are authenticating one of your books to ensure it is not a counterfeit the order status will still say “processing”, but will be updated once we receive authentication.
  • Payment:  Payment is typically issued within 1-3 business days after processing is complete or once a book is authenticated.  Payment may take significantly longer during high seasons.

Sellers may choose between two different payment methods: PayPal or check. Payment by PayPal is issued within 1-3 business days after processing is complete. Payment by check is sent via USPS First Class mail, which typically takes 3-7 business days to reach any destination in the United States.

Issued checks remain valid for 60 days. In the event of a lost, forgotten, or otherwise not cashed check, please contact info@burgessbrands.com to receive a new check.  If you would not like to wait 60 days we offer a $30 early cancellation and re-issue option which can be arranged by contacting us.

Account Management

Sellers may only use ONE account.  Anyone caught violating this policy will be immediately suspended.  Anyone shipping books from outside of the US will be immediately suspended.

Counterfeit, Pirated, or Illegally Obtained Books

Burgess Brands reserves the right to inquire how items were originally acquired. While under investigation, payment may be delayed or withheld.  Any items submitted to Burgess Brands that are determined to be counterfeit will be surrendered to the proper authorities (publishers and/or  law enforcement) or immediately destroyed with no payment. Furthermore, the seller information will be released to the publisher and/or law enforcement as needed.
